Dodge, Jeep & RAM PCM Unlock Service

What Is a PCM Unlock?

A PCM unlock removes the factory encryption from the Powertrain Control Module, allowing HP Tuners or other professional tuning platforms to read and write calibration data.

Beginning in 2015, FCA encrypted the PCM on most vehicles, preventing OBD tuning access. Unlocking modifies the PCM internally so custom tuning can be performed safely and reliably.

Why Do 2015+ Dodge, Jeep, and RAM Vehicles Require Unlocking?

Starting in 2015, FCA implemented security protocols that block calibration access through the OBD port.

Vehicles equipped with encrypted controllers such as the GPEC2 and GPEC2A or later variants cannot be tuned unless the PCM is physically unlocked first.

Without unlocking, tuning software cannot modify airflow, torque management, injector data, or boost tables.

Do I Have to Mail in My PCM?

Yes.

The unlock process requires bench-level modification of the PCM. The module must be removed from the vehicle and shipped to us for service.

Once unlocked, the PCM becomes fully readable and writable via OBD using HP Tuners or Diablosport.

How Long Does the PCM Unlock Process Take?

Typical turnaround time is 1–2 business days once received.

Expedited options may be available. Return shipping tracking is provided immediately after completion.

What Vehicles Require a PCM Unlock?

Most 2015+ FCA vehicles require unlocking, including:

  • Dodge Charger

  • Dodge Challenger

  • Jeep Grand Cherokee

  • RAM 1500 / 2500

  • Chrysler 300

If you're unsure which controller your vehicle has, contact us with your VIN.

What PCM Controllers Are Supported?

We service encrypted FCA controllers including:

  • GPEC2A

  • GPEC3

  • GPEC2

If your vehicle uses one of these encrypted modules, unlocking is required before tuning.

Is the PCM Unlock Safe?

Yes.

The unlock process does not alter factory drivability or reliability. It only enables calibration access. Once unlocked, the PCM functions normally and supports both stock and custom tuning files.

Thousands of vehicles operate daily with unlocked PCMs.

Can I Return the PCM to Stock Later?

Yes.

An unlocked PCM can still run a stock calibration file. Unlocking does not permanently alter the vehicle's operating behavior — it only removes the tuning restriction.

Will Unlocking Void My Warranty?

Any calibration modification may impact manufacturer warranty coverage.

If warranty preservation is critical, we recommend keeping your original locked PCM and purchasing a spare unit for modification.

Do I Need HP Tuners Credits After Unlocking?

Yes.

Unlocking only enables access. You will still need the appropriate HP Tuners interface and credits to license and flash the vehicle.

Can You Tune My Vehicle After Unlocking?

Yes.

We offer custom remote tuning for:

  • Bolt-on modifications

  • Camshaft upgrades

  • Supercharger systems

  • Injector scaling

  • Torque modeling

  • Transmission tuning

We strongly recommend pairing your PCM unlock with a custom calibration to maximize performance and drivability. Any other questions please contact us sales@n2speed.com
