Read this first: Stellantis engines are speed-density systems. Engine load is measured by the MAP sensor reading manifold pressure, so the air-metering codes that matter here are the P0106 through P0109 MAP family. Generic code lists written for other brands point you at air-metering hardware these engines do not use.

Long-term fuel trim hit its positive limit — the PCM is adding fuel to correct a lean condition. Vacuum leaks, weak fuel supply, and dirty injectors are typical causes.
Tuning note: On a modified engine this is often a calibration issue: larger injectors, a bigger throttle body, or a cam change that was never accounted for in the VE tables.
P0172Air & Fuel MeteringSystem Too Rich (Bank 1)
Long-term fuel trim hit its negative limit — the PCM is pulling fuel to correct a rich condition. Leaking injectors, high fuel pressure, or a restricted intake.

Same as P0171 on the opposite bank. A single-bank code points at that bank specifically — an intake leak, injector, or O2 sensor rather than global fueling.

Tuning note: If the cats were removed, this code is expected. Disabling the catalyst monitor on an emissions-controlled vehicle is not legal for street use, and N2 Speed does not do it on street cars.

Same condition as P0420 on the opposite bank.
P0440Emissions & EVAPEVAP System Fault (General)
General evaporative emissions system malfunction.
P0441Emissions & EVAPEVAP Purge Flow Incorrect
Purge flow does not match the commanded value — stuck purge solenoid or a plumbing fault.
P0442Emissions & EVAPEVAP Small Leak Detected
A small leak was detected in the EVAP system. A loose or worn fuel cap seal is the classic cause.
P0443Emissions & EVAPEVAP Purge Solenoid Circuit
Purge solenoid electrical circuit fault.
P0455Emissions & EVAPEVAP Large Leak Detected
A large leak was detected — missing fuel cap, disconnected line, or a cracked canister.
P0456Emissions & EVAPEVAP Very Small Leak Detected
A very small leak was detected. Extremely common and usually the fuel cap or a hairline hose crack.

P0507Throttle & ETCIdle Speed Higher Than Expected
Actual idle RPM is above the commanded value. Usually an unmetered air leak or a throttle plate held open.
P0508Throttle & ETCIdle Air Control Circuit Low
IAC/electronic throttle idle control circuit reads low.
P2100Throttle & ETCThrottle Actuator Control Motor Circuit
Electronic throttle body motor circuit fault. Expect reduced power mode.

The throttle plate did not reach the commanded position. Carbon buildup, a binding plate, or a failing actuator.
Tuning note: Very common on high-mileage HEMI throttle bodies. Clean and retest before replacing.

The PCM has capped RPM as a protective response to a throttle system fault.

How to Read the Code Numbers

The first character tells you which system stored the fault. P is powertrain, U is network or communication, B is body, and C is chassis.

The second character tells you who defined it. P0xxx codes are generic and mean the same thing on every OBD-II vehicle sold since 1996. P1xxx codes are manufacturer specific — on these vehicles that means Chrysler or Stellantis defined them. P2xxx and P3xxx ranges are a mix of both.

The remaining digits identify the specific circuit, cylinder, or monitor. Injector codes P0201 through P0208 and coil codes P0351 through P0358 both follow cylinder order, not firing order — a detail that sends plenty of people chasing the wrong coil.

One more thing worth knowing: a stored code is a symptom report, not a diagnosis. P0420 does not mean "replace the catalytic converter." It means the downstream oxygen sensor no longer sees the difference it expects to see. An exhaust leak, a lazy sensor, or a fueling problem produce the same code.

Codes We See After a Tune

Some codes are hardware failures. Others are the PCM correctly reporting that the engine no longer matches the calibration it was given. The second group is fixable in software, and it is the group we deal with every day:

P0128 and P1281 — a low-temperature thermostat was installed but the warm-up thresholds were never adjusted. P0506 — a camshaft swap changed idle airflow requirements. P0108 — the factory MAP sensor ran out of range on a boosted build. P0234 — the factory overboost limit was left at the stock value. P0171 or P0174 — larger injectors or a bigger throttle body without rescaled fuel tables.

And some codes must never be tuned around. P0016 crank-to-cam correlation, P0521 through P0523 oil pressure, P0325 and P0330 knock sensor faults, and any active misfire under load are mechanical problems. Adding timing to an engine with a dead knock sensor is how engines get destroyed. We fix the hardware first, every time.

How do I read DTC codes on a Dodge, Jeep, RAM or Chrysler?

Most 2005 and newer Stellantis vehicles let you read stored codes from the instrument cluster: turn the key to ON without starting, then press and hold the trip odometer reset while cycling the key. Any generic OBD-II scanner plugged into the port under the dash will also read P-codes. Reading module-specific codes such as TCM or BCM faults requires a bidirectional scan tool or tuning software such as HP Tuners.

What is the difference between a P code, a U code and a B code?

P codes are powertrain — engine and transmission. U codes are network or communication faults between modules. B codes are body, and C codes are chassis. P0xxx codes are generic across all manufacturers, while P1xxx and many P2xxx and P3xxx codes are manufacturer specific to Stellantis.

Will a custom tune clear my check engine light?

Only if the code was caused by a calibration limit rather than a mechanical fault. A tune can rescale thresholds for things like a low-temperature thermostat or an out-of-range MAP sensor on a boosted build. It cannot fix a failed coil, a leaking injector, or a stretched timing chain, and we will not mask a real hardware fault behind a calibration change.

My Dodge threw a code right after a tune. What now?

Pull the exact code and send it to us with a datalog. Most post-tune codes come from a hardware change the calibration was never told about — a camshaft, a larger throttle body, bigger injectors, or a thermostat swap. Revisions to correct these are part of our remote tuning service.

Does my engine have MDS?

MDS cylinder deactivation exists only on the 5.7L and 6.4L HEMI. The 3.6L Pentastar, the 6.1L SRT8, and the supercharged 6.2L engines in Hellcat, Redeye, Super Stock, Demon, Trackhawk and TRX applications have no MDS hardware, so the P34xx cylinder deactivation codes do not apply to them.

Can I keep driving with a check engine light on?

It depends entirely on the code. A small EVAP leak is not urgent. A crank-to-cam correlation fault, a misfire under load, or low oil pressure can destroy an engine. If the light is flashing, stop driving — a flashing MIL means active misfire that is dumping raw fuel into the catalytic converters.
