What is a PCM unlock?

A PCM unlock removes the factory encryption from the Powertrain Control Module so professional tuning tools can read and write calibration data. On most 2015+ Dodge, Jeep, Chrysler, and RAM vehicles, unlocking is required before custom tuning can be performed.

Why do 2015+ Dodge, Jeep, and RAM vehicles require unlocking?

Starting in 2015, FCA implemented security protocols that restrict tuning access through the OBD port on many vehicles. Unlocking enables calibration access so changes to airflow, torque management, fueling, and other tables can be flashed safely.

Do I have to mail in my PCM?

Yes. The unlock process is performed on a bench and requires the PCM to be removed from the vehicle and shipped in for service. Once unlocked, the PCM can typically be read and written via OBD using supported tuning platforms.

How long does the PCM unlock process take?

Typical turnaround is 1–3 business days after the PCM is received, plus shipping time. Tracking is provided when the module ships back.

What vehicles commonly need a PCM unlock?

Most 2015+ Dodge, Jeep, Chrysler, and RAM vehicles with encrypted controllers require unlocking before tuning. Common examples include 2015+ Charger, Challenger, 300, Grand Cherokee, and RAM 1500. If you are unsure, provide your VIN and we can verify.

What controllers are supported for PCM unlocking?

Common encrypted FCA controllers include GPEC2A, GPEC3, E90, and E92. Compatibility can vary by year and model, so VIN verification is recommended if you are not sure which PCM your vehicle uses.

Is a PCM unlock safe?

Yes. Unlocking is designed to enable calibration access and does not change stock drivability by itself. The vehicle will operate normally on a stock calibration or a custom tune after unlocking.

Can I return the PCM to stock after it is unlocked?

Yes. An unlocked PCM can still run a stock calibration file. Unlocking enables access, but you can flash stock or custom files as needed using a supported tuning platform.

Will unlocking void my warranty?

Unlocking enables tuning access, and any calibration changes may affect manufacturer warranty coverage. If warranty is a concern, some customers keep their original PCM stock and use a spare PCM for modifications.

Do I still need HP Tuners credits after unlocking?

Yes. Unlocking enables access, but you still need the appropriate interface and licensing (credits) to read, license, and flash the vehicle with HP Tuners or other supported tools.
