Dodge, Jeep & RAM PCM Unlock Service

PCM Unlock FAQ (2015+ Dodge, Jeep & Ram)

What is a PCM unlock?

A PCM unlock removes factory encryption from the Powertrain Control Module so professional tuning platforms like HP Tuners and Diablosport (and supported devices) can read and write calibration data for custom tuning.

Many 2015+ FCA vehicles use encrypted PCMs that block OBD tuning access until the controller is unlocked.

Why do 2015+ Dodge, Jeep, and Ram vehicles require unlocking?

Starting in 2015, FCA implemented security protocols that restrict calibration access through the OBD port. Encrypted controllers such as GPEC2 and GPEC2A (and later variants) typically require a physical unlock first.

Without unlocking, tuning software cannot modify key calibration areas such as airflow, torque management, injector data, or boost tables.

Do I have to mail in my PCM?

Yes. PCM unlocking is a bench service that requires the module to be removed from the vehicle and shipped to us. Once unlocked, the PCM becomes readable and writable via OBD using HP Tuners (and supported tuning solutions).

How long does the PCM unlock process take?

Typical turnaround time is 1–2 business days after the PCM is received. Expedited options may be available, and return tracking is provided once the service is completed.

What vehicles require a PCM unlock?

Most 2015+ FCA vehicles require unlocking, including:

  • Dodge Charger
  • Dodge Challenger
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • Ram 1500 / 2500
  • Chrysler 300

If you’re unsure which controller your vehicle has, contact us with your VIN: sales@n2speed.com.

What PCM controllers are supported?

We service encrypted FCA controllers including:

  • GPEC2A
  • GPEC3
  • GPEC2

If your vehicle uses one of these encrypted modules, unlocking is required before custom tuning can be performed.

Is the PCM unlock safe?

Yes. The unlock process does not change factory drivability by itself—it only enables calibration access. Once unlocked, the PCM functions normally and can run stock or custom tune files.

Can I return the PCM to stock later?

Yes. An unlocked PCM can still run a factory stock calibration. Unlocking removes the tuning restriction—it does not force a tuned file.

Will unlocking void my warranty?

Any calibration modification may affect manufacturer warranty coverage. If preserving warranty is critical, consider keeping your original locked PCM and using a spare module for modification.

Do I need HP Tuners credits after unlocking?

Yes. Unlocking enables access, but you still need a supported HP Tuners interface and the required credits to license and flash the vehicle.

Can you tune my vehicle after unlocking?

Yes. We offer custom remote tuning for:

  • Bolt-on modifications
  • Camshaft upgrades
  • Supercharger systems
  • Injector scaling
  • Torque modeling
  • Transmission tuning

We recommend pairing your PCM unlock with a custom calibration to maximize performance and drivability. Questions? Email sales@n2speed.com.
